Kelly's Story

CoreVia Pelvic Health

Kelly AlbaughAs Kelly Albaugh stares at her son, Luke, you can see the love between the two. But Kelly’s birth plan didn’t quite go the way she imagined. She describes it as traumatic after experiencing third-degree tears during delivery.

“I was struggling to recover both physically and emotionally,” Kelly said. “I had a lot of discomfort in my pelvic region. There was pain when sitting or standing for long periods. There was also this feeling of weakness and heaviness.”

Kelly’s doctor recommended pelvic floor therapy, so she turned to NovaCare’s CoreVia Pelvic Health program. Her physical therapist used real-time ultrasound and functional exercises to address Kelly’s symptoms, helping reduce her discomfort and build strength. During treatment, Kelly developed mastitis due to breastfeeding, which her therapist helped her resolve. Kelly was thrilled and said even her doctor was surprised to learn that pelvic health physical therapists can help relieve clogged milk ducts and mastitis.

“Through my therapy sessions, I learned just how crucial it is to care for both the internal and external muscles after childbirth,” Kelly said. “It’s such an empowering experience that can really make a difference in your recovery and overall well-being as a mom.”

Before pregnancy, Kelly was an avid indoor cyclist. After delivery, she feared she might never cycle again. “But with guidance and pelvic floor therapy, I was able to get back on the bike just 12 weeks postpartum with minimal discomfort,” Kelly shared. “It was a major milestone for me, both personally and physically.”

After seven weeks of treatment, Kelly said she almost feels like her pre-pregnancy self again, and is excited to return to long walks, cycling and picking up her son without pain or heaviness.

Thank you for trusting us with your care, Kelly. We’re so glad to see you and baby Luke doing so well.
