Our Team

Brianna Laird, P.T., DPT Center Manager

Brianna serves as site supervisor at NovaCare Kids in Kalamazoo and has been a member of this team since 2008, with 15 years of clinical experience in pediatrics. She completed her undergraduate education at Michigan State University and received a doctorate in physical therapy from Grand Valley State University. She specializes in treating patients with a variety of diagnoses including autism, torticollis, gross motor delay as well as neurological, neuromuscular and orthopedic disorders. She is passionate about a child-centered approach to physical therapy, using evidence-based techniques to ensure they are getting full therapeutic benefit while enjoying their time in the center. She also strives to empower families to help their children reach their maximum potential. She and her husband have two children and enjoy camping, hiking and gardening.

Tara Bivens, M.S., OTR/L

Tara has been with NovaCare Kids Pediatric Therapy since 2012 and has over 12 years of clinical experience. She has worked in the inpatient and outpatient health care settings and has worked exclusively with the pediatric population for 11 years, specializing in clients with feeding concerns, sensory processing difficulties and developmental delays. She completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Western Michigan University. Tara and her husband have three children and enjoy traveling, skiing, camping and kayaking.

Katherine DeButch, M.A., CCC-SLP

Katie earned both her bachelor's degree in speech pathology and audiology and her master's degree in speech language pathology from Western Michigan University. Her clinical and professional interests include hearing loss/aural rehabilitation, language development, phonological impairment impacts on literacy, accessibility, research and interprofessional collaboration. Katie is a MI-LEND fellow after completing the long-term trainee program in the 2023-24 cohort of Michigan Leadership Education.

Lyndsay Hammond, P.T., DPT

Lyndsay began her career in Maine at Saco Bay Kids Pediatric Therapy Lyndsay returned to Michigan in 2022 to work at NovaCare Kids Pediatric Therapy where she could continue practicing in an interdisciplinary rehabilitation environment. Lyndsay treats patients with gross motor developmental delays and gait and mobility concerns. She has experience in the school systems and as a clinical instructor for physical therapy students. Lyndsay graduated from Grand Valley State University with a bachelor's degree in exercise science. She furthered her education at Grand Valley State University earning a doctorate in physical therapy. Lyndsay enjoys learning about true crime, watching college sports and a good cup of coffee.

Jennifer Mejeur, M.S., OTR/L

Jennifer has been a member of NovaCare Rehabilitation Kids Pediatric Therapy since 2021, with three years of clinical experience. She has experience working in the outpatient, school-based and home health settings. Jennifer specializes in providing pediatric services to patients with ADD/ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, feeding difficulties, neurological conditions and sensory processing disorder. Jennifer completed her undergraduate education at Western Michigan University and received a master's of occupational therapy from Western Michigan University. She and her husband enjoy camping and spending time with their family and friends.

Katelyn Jonak, M.S., OTR/L

Katelyn earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri and her master's degree in occupational therapy from Davenport University. She is passionate about utilizing a relationship-based approach to assist her patients and their families in achieving their goals. Katelyn has experience providing pediatric services to patients with sensory processing disorder, neurological conditions, genetic conditions, learning disabilities and more. Originally from Missouri, she moved to Michigan with her fiancé, and they have since adopted a bernedoodle named Josie. Katelyn enjoys spending time outside golfing, boating, skiing and doing anything related to arts and crafts.

Samantha Nyenhuis, M.A., CCC-SLP

Samantha has been a member of NovaCare Kids Pediatric Therapy since 2022, with four years of clinical experience. She has experience in outpatient and school-based therapy settings. Samantha completed her undergraduate program at Northern Michigan University and received her masters degree in communication sciences and disorders from University of Minnesota-Duluth. In her free time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her friends and family.

Hand Therapy

Our certified hand therapists (CHT) provide comprehensive and industry-leading treatment for hand, wrist, arm, elbow and shoulder injuries or conditions. Our team will work with you to create an individualized program to return you to work, life and athletics as soon as possible.

Pediatric Therapy

We offer multi-disciplinary, pediatric therapy services to help children reach developmental milestones and their full potential. Therapy methods are typically given in one-on-one sessions, using play-based activities to gain insight into how a child moves, thinks and expresses thoughts and emotions. Additional specialized programs, such as feeding therapy, sensory/emotional regulation, toe walking and torticollis, are also available. We are committed to providing an exceptional experience that enhances each child's participation in desired family, community and school activities.

When you need dedicated, sports-specific care, look to our Select Sports Centers of Excellence (COE). Our COE designation conveys the highest quality in sports medicine delivery. It's an endorsement of expertise in sports as a clinical practice.

In these centers, you'll work with specially trained, sports medicine physical therapists. Their advanced clinical skills and sports experience can help all levels of athletes.
