NOVACARE REHABILITATION IN MOON TOWNSHIP
GOES SPACE AGE FOR ITS PATIENTS

You hear the words, “advanced air pressure regulation system…technology developed at NASA” and think of equipment for the Space Shuttle. Did you ever think that these same terms could describe technology to help individuals of all ages and abilities recover from lower extremity injuries, surgery or to enhance athletic performance? Well, now you can!
NovaCare Rehabilitation in now has the G-Trainer™ Anti-Gravity Treadmill at its Moon Township center, located at 1136 J. Thorn Run Road.

This state-of-the-art technology, by Alter-G Inc., is setting the standard for results-oriented, un-weighting technology equipment. Alter G’s technology was originally developed at NASA as part of an effort to help astronauts maintain fitness during prolonged space flight. In 2005, Alter-G combined this technology with a treadmill to produce the first anti-gravity treadmill, using a pressurized enclosure to provide a counter-force to a person’s body weight, reducing the effective weight on the treadmill surface. Essentially, this technology provides the feeling of walking on pillows by achieving up to 80% reduction in body weight. In 2008, the G-Trainer was approved for medical use by the FDA and is quickly becoming applicable for physical rehabilitation, aerobic conditioning and weight control to name a few.

From a rehabilitative perspective, patients
who suffer from injury or a condition limiting their ability to walk in normal weight-bearing will benefit from this innovative technology.”
In addition to the rehabilitative patient, the G-Trainer provides athletes the ability to get the most out of training and exercise programs while minimizing the risk of impact-related and over-use injuries. And, the G-Trainer also delivers newly available treatment options for patients recovering from arthritis and any other “itis” conditions, lower extremity fractures, joint replacement, strokes, balance disorders and many other conditions.

"As the most technologically advanced un-weighting system available today, the G-Trainer is the ideal therapy for individuals with weight-bearing limitations,” said Lars Barfod, CEO of Alter-G. “It offers very precise control over progressive weight bearing and allows natural gait mechanics that help patients improve range of motion and build strength.” The G-Trainer is appropriate for individuals with obesity-related mobility limitations and for those with neurological conditions causing gait disturbances. It is easier for older patients to use because it offers natural body movement while reducing the risk of falling and allows the therapist to provide gait-training feedback.
