News Corner

Now offering the STAR Program in Minnesota...
The STAR Program was developed by the professionals at Oncology Rehabilitation Partners and led by Dr. Julie Silver to aid cancer survivors in their quest to regain their lives. Even the best cancer treatments can sometimes cause debilitating side effects. Inspired by the premise, NovaCare Rehabilitation in Minnesota has obtained a special certification to specifically help cancer survivors. Known as the STAR Program® Certification, the new designation allows qualifying NovaCare Rehabilitation clinics to offer premium oncology rehabilitation services.

To qualify, each clinic successfully demonstrated it could combine conventional medicine with an evidence-based, standardized model of oncology rehabilitation service, successfully implement a program evaluation and implement new treatment protocols and rehabilitation training. Through the certification, patients will benefit from new services covered by health insurance providers. The new services will be delivered by clinical staff trained in how to help survivors of all forms of cancer.

What is Lymphedema'
Lymphedema is characterized by abnormal build up of fluid that causes swelling most often seen in the arms and legs. Lymphedema occurs when there is damage or there is an abnormality in the functioning of the lymph system.

Treatment of Lymphedema:
Although lymphedema is not curable, documented research shows a combination of specific exercises, manual therapy techniques, bandaging, special skin care and the use of compression garments can dramatically decrease the symptoms of lymphedema.
