We are pleased to announce the following developments:
Aquatic Therapy in Austin Aquatic therapy incorporates the properties of water to positively impact movement, strength and function. Water is a safe and effective medium to exercise specific muscle groups and joints with substantially less compressive forces than other types of exercise. Aquatic therapy techniques are designed to move against the buoyancy of water, facilitating exercise by making movement easier and less painful. Our techniques build on water's naturally resistance to improve quality and strength of movement. The therapeutic, non-weight-bearing properties of water create an ideal rehabilitation environment, especially for post-operative patients with back injuries. Aquatic therapy is available in Austin at the Austin Center Boulevard location. What is Manual Therapy? Manual Therapy is a collection of specialized techniques used by therapists to help muscles relax, decrease pain and restore normal movement to joints. These techniques, which include joint and soft tissue mobilizations, and other hands on therapeutic interventions, are usually performed in conjunction with exercises and have been shown to be one of the most effective types of treatment available for various conditions. Our therapists decide which techniques are best suited for each patient after performing a thorough evaluation and discussing treatment goals. Certified Hand Therapy in Austin, Waco, and San Antonio We are dedicated to providing professional, comprehensive treatment for the hand and upper extremities. Our team of occupational therapists and certified hand therapists are highly trained and specialized in the evaluation and treatment of the upper extremity. We believe in a strong team approach � patient, therapist and physician - to maximize functional recovery and minimize impairment and disability. Occupational and Certified Hand Therapy services are available in Waco and Round Rock, in Austin at the Austin Center Boulevard, Hand Therapy Center on Medical Parkway, and South Lamar locations, and in San Antonio at the Huebner and Pat Booker Road locations. Women�s Health At Select Physical Therapy, we believe in caring for the whole person, both physically and emotionally. Our Women�s Health Program was created to meet the special needs of women � on a behavioral, therapeutic, and holistic level. Our clinical team is specifically trained to effectively treat a variety of women�s health issues including incontinence, pelvic pain, pregnancy related pain, and gynecological post surgical rehabilitation. Our treatment pans are created to meet your individual and specialized needs and circumstances. Please contact our South Lamar Boulevard location for more information. Lymphedema Treatment Available in San Antonio Lymphedema treatment is for chronic swelling of all or portions of an extremity or trunk which cannot be controlled or significantly eliminated by medication, R.I.C.E., or exercise. Lymphedema can limit mobility, joint flexibility and normal functional activities at home and in the community. The onset of Lymphedema frequently follows S/P breast and prostate cancer diagnoses and associated treatments. However, it can also develop after a joint replacement trauma or an infection in one of the extremities. Our clinical team is fully trained and staffed to provide appropriate treatment, including lymphatic drainage massage and gradient decompression wrapping. Functional Capacity Evaluations A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a series of tests administered to help determine your safe maximum ability to perform functional tasks. You will be asked to perform numerous tasks involving range of motion, lifting, aerobic capacity and a variety of positions such as bending, squatting, reaching, handling, etc. For more information, please contact a center near you. Wii Fit Rehabilitation Select Physical Therapy has merged the science of physical therapy and the fun of Wii Fit! This innovative approach to physical therapy is geared towards individuals of all ages and fitness levels. By incorporating the Wii Fit into individualized treatment programs, patients are more engaged in their treatment and are excited to return for each visit. Arthritis Foundation Select Physical Therapy sponsored this year's Arthritis Foundation Arthritis Walk. The walk was a huge success and raised money and awareness for those suffering from arthritis. We are looking forward to sponsoring and participating in the walk again in 2011.
