    The Graston® Technique

Graston Logo edited  The Graston® Technique is the use of specially-designed stainless steel instruments to assist in detecting and treating areas exhibiting scar tissue, soft tissue restriction, adhesions or chronic inflammation. Therapists use the instruments, which vary in shapes and sizes, to comb over and isolate dysfunctional tissue. Once the tissue has been identified, the instruments are used by specially-trained therapists to break up adhesions, soft tissue restrictions and scar tissue, helping to reduce pain and increase range of motion.

Benefits of the Graston Technique include:

    • Improves diagnostic treatment.
    • Increases patient satisfaction by achieving notably better outcomes.
    • Speeds rehabilitation and recovery.
    • Allows the patient to continue to engage in everyday activities.
    • More effective and less painful than traditional methods of soft tissue treatment.

For more information on the Graston Technique and how Select Physical Therapy’s therapists are utilizing it during individualized treatment programs, please contact one of our physical therapy centers near you.

Manual Therapy ... What is it?

Manual therapy is a collection of specialized hands-on techniques used by therapists to help muscles relax, decrease pain and restore normal movement to joints. Treatment may include moving joints in specific directions and at different speeds to regain movement (joint mobilization and manipulation), muscle stretching, passive movements of the affected body part or having the patient move the body part against the therapist's resistance to improve muscle activation and timing. Specific soft tissue techniques may also be used to improve the mobility and function of tissue and muscles,

The services of a manual physical therapist are recommended if you have muscle, joint or soft tissue conditions that affect movement, strength, posture or cause pain. This includes common disorders associated with trauma, post-operative recovery, poor posture, overuse, athletic injuries, obesity and arthritis.

Our therapists decide which techniques are best suited for each patient after performing a thorough evaluation and discussing treatment goals. Call us today for more information or to request an appointment!
