The Graston® Technique is the use of specially-designed stainless steel instruments to assist in detecting and treating areas exhibiting scar tissue, soft tissue restriction, adhesions or chronic inflammation. Therapists use the instruments, which vary in shapes and sizes, to comb over and isolate dysfunctional tissue. Once the tissue has been identified, the instruments are used by specially-trained therapists to break up adhesions, soft tissue restrictions and scar tissue, helping to reduce pain and increase range of motion.

Manual therapy is a collection of specialized hands-on techniques used by therapists to help muscles relax, decrease pain and restore normal movement to joints. Treatment may include moving joints in specific directions and at different speeds to regain movement (joint mobilization and manipulation), muscle stretching, passive movements of the affected body part or having the patient move the body part against the therapist's resistance to improve muscle activation and timing.
